Dr. Maddisen Espeseth

Dr. Maddisen Espeseth, PsyD, RPT, IFS-I ACC, CST

Testing Psychologist

UNIVERSITIES + DEGREES:

The Chicago School of Professional Psychology at Irvine (APA Accredited) Doctor of Psychology (PsyD): Clinical Psychology with a Concentration in Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology, American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University (APA Accredited) Master of Arts (MA): Clinical Psychology with a Concentration in Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology, Chapman University Bachelor of Science (BS): Health Science with a Minor in Psychology

CLINICAL SPECIALIZATION:

Dr. Maddisen Espeseth is a licensed psychologist who practices from an attachment-heavy, neurosequential lens. Specific to psychodiagnostic testing, she has a history of assessing for neurodevelopmental diagnoses (such as autism, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder: ADHD, intellectual disability, and specific learning disabilities) in addition to mood, obsessive-compulsive, anxiety, psychotic, trauma-related, and personality disorders. Dr. Espeseth has provided assessment services in the residential treatment center (RTC), partial hospitalization program (PHP), intensive outpatient program (IOP), pediatric hospital, community mental health, substance abuse rehabilitative center, and private practice settings.

Dr. Espeseth strongly values the provision of client-centered, holistic, respectful, neurodiversity affirming testing services. She recognizes that the construct of neurodivergence is multidimensional and contextualized by an individual’s unique lived experience; it therefore, frequently conflicts with the binary, often pathologizing, and sometimes ecologically invalid or impractical diagnostic criterion outlined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder, Fifth Edition, Text Revision (DSM-5-TR). It is significantly important to her to continuously learn and expand her understanding of neurodivergence while maintaining ethical fidelity to our present-day consensual conceptualizations of mental health diagnoses. Specific to psychotherapy, Dr. Espeseth specializes in treating trauma-related disorders and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

CERTIFICATIONS: Certified Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapist, IFS Institute (IFS-I) Approved Clinical Consultant (ACC), Registered Play Therapist (RPT), Certified Sandplay Therapist (CST)

“I believe a foundational necessity of being a psychologist is a humbling openness to and passion for lifelong learning. Because mental health is a complex, multifaceted sphere of each of our lives (interwoven with neurodevelopmental, cultural, familial, societal, spiritual, etc. factors), I am earnest about providing individualized care balancing the binary, often oversimplified DSM conceptualization of diagnoses with the recognition that no two clients present exactly the same. I strongly value seeing a client as a person first and foremost, perceiving symptoms as adaptive in intent and instinctually driven toward meeting a client’s needs. I am eager to collaborate with the Mental Health Collective in supporting each client with accessing their inborn ability to attain a purpose-driven, meaningful life.” – Dr. Espeseth
