Treating Mood Disorders at The Collective

TREATING MOOD DISORDERS AT THE COLLECTIVE

How Taking an Individualized and Multi-Interventional Approach to Mood Disorder Treatment is Helping Clients Live Their Best Lives

MOOD + ANXIETY DISORDERS

Mood and Anxiety Disorders represent a category of mental health conditions where the primary symptom or challenge is maintaining a stable emotional state and suffering from overwhelming feelings of worry, panic, or fear that interferes with the ability to function.  These disorders are very common, affecting almost one in every five individuals at some point during their lives.

MOOD DISORDER ASSESSMENT

The assessment of mood disorders can also be associated with how clients have experienced identity formation and acceptance in their social worlds. For example, clients with neurodivergent conditions, such as autism and ADHD, may have experienced a world of invalidation that has led to depression with anxious thoughts and emotions. The Collective’s assessment process is designed to capture everyone’s unique experiences and understand not just their diagnosis but also their lived experience and goodness of fit in their social worlds. The Collective aims to treat the individual’s mood but also help them discover the qualities that make them unique and help them thrive in a world that embraces and affirms them.

INDIVIDUALIZED MOOD DISORDER TREATMENT

The Collective recognizes that each individual experiences mood disorders differently in their body and brain; therefore, the treatment must be highly individualized. As a result, The Collective works from a neuro-informed symptom reduction model, where we focus on how the symptoms present in the body, rather than the diagnosis alone, to guide treatment. Patients respond best when treatment involves a combination of appropriate medication, therapy, and lifestyle modification. Finding the proper medications and therapeutic modalities for each person can take time and time for them to work. The prognosis for recovery is best when patients are closely monitored and supported during treatment and a thoughtful, comprehensive, and integrative treatment plan is implemented.

MEDICATION FOR MOOD DISORDERS

The Collective’s psychiatry team is also individualized through gene testing, medical history, and timeline assessment. It evaluates medication progress in their weekly hour-long appointments to cater to clients’ incremental responses to medication. Further, our psychiatry team also emphasizes over-the-counter supplements, vitamins, and nutritional support, with the assistance of our dietician team, to encourage clients to think holistically.

THERAPY MODALITIES FOR MOOD DISORDERS

The Mental Health Collective has an assortment of programming in both group and individual modalities that can support people recovering from mood disorders. Therapies such as:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)
  • Identity Exploration
  • Grief and Loss
  • Anger Management groups

…are “choice” groups that clients can choose to include in their programming selections so they may cater their treatment to exactly their area of growth. The Collective also has a robust offering of Narrative Therapy options that include music and songwriting, art therapy, and narrative expression groups that explore clients’ identities and interactions within themselves and their social worlds. With the number of individual therapy options spanning cognitive and somatic modalities and a diverse array of treatment specialists, clients truly receive a case-specific treatment plan unique to their recovery needs.
